Salem shifted uncomfortably at her observation of his behavior. He scratched lightly at the large scar on his cheek. "There's that..." he said, recalling his promise to pay her back for her kindness. "There's also the fact that you're the first person I've met that's in the same mess as I am." He laid his hand down and looked up towards the stars. "I've met a lot of people in my life. I've had friends, family, loved ones. They've all passed on though." Salem's thoughts turned predominantly towards his family. "You're the only person I've met that will probably be around as long as I will. The only person I can get close to without having to worry about having them walk out of my life." Salem looked back down at her and attempted a smile. "I can't very well let you go off and die." He tried making a joke out of it, but the worry was rather apparent.
That had been the other part of his curse, immortality. He could have ended his life. Stopped feeding all together and starve the Wendigo to the point where it couldn't keep him young, but it wasn't in his nature. Salem had to keep fighting and scrapping. It was all he knew how to do. He didn't seem to know how to give up, but it cost him and most of those around him. Some of the loved ones he spoke of had died by his hand, few of them finding there way to the grave by natural causes. They were the ones that filled his dreams.

Willow swallowed her paranoia, deciding she may need to trust this group rather than just lead it into battle. "Then there may be a way to repay me, Salem...." She stared into the fire, watching the flames devour the wood. "The Grohraijj... this monthly ritual... it's a temporary measure. It wasn't always like this for me." she rubbed her hands together for the warmth, before looking over at him. "I need to know... honestly, now," she paused, watching the smoke trail between them. "Can I trust you? This adventure, this quest... means more than I let on before."

Trust was something the man hadn't come by in a long time. When people had placed their trust in him it usually ended with them dead at his feet. Despite every nagging feeling and misgivings he found himself nodding. "You can trust me, Willow." he said, peering through the smoke that separated the two of them. A small gust of wind picked up, shifting the direction of the smoke away from them. "Considering all that you've done for me in the short time that I've known you it seems a small favor."

"That's nice and all." Fanuco says opening his eyes that are filled with madness. "What do you want to do about our unwanted guest?"

"What guest?" Willow asked, her ears pricking up to their surroundings.

Fanuco stands up and without missing a beat, he slash out with his sword at the tree he was prop up against. As the tree fell so did the dead body of goblin like creature fell to the ground. "These guest." He says back to her grinning madly.

Grumbling under breath, annoyed more than anything Willow stood, and for the first time a hint of anger in her eyes. She held her hands out, palms outward, and she shouted in an ancient language in a harsh tone. A pulse was sent out through her hands, and the goblins squealed and yelped for a moment, before quiet settled over the camp. The smell of blood and death slowly wafted towards the group, and Willow took her seat, looking at the samurai. "Next time make yourself useful and take care of it."

Salem wrinkled his nose at the sight of the goblin. "What happened to them being unworthy?" He lazily got to his feet and prepared himself for the encounter. Where there was one goblin there was usually more. The one that Fan had just killed had more than likely been a scout, but when the others noticed that it hadn't returned they would head out to find there lost brother.

Willow shook her head at him. "No, with that spell any goblin with a five mile radius would be jelly by now." She spat at the fire. "I'm in no mood for them."

He grins over at her. "I was asleep and wasn't your job to keep watch." He points out propping himself up against what's left of the tree. "And I said I'll wake up if anything interesting happen, so I did."

Willow's nose twitched, the samurai's wanton abandon unsettling her. With a few breaths, she reigned in her thoughts, a calm settling into her mind. "Very well. Thank you for the alert." She poked the fire, a little harder than necessary, small coals jumping out at her and Salem. "Sorry." She quickly patted the smoking patches on his arm, a sheepish expression on her face.

Salem marveled at the display of power that Willow had just demonstrated. By his count she had probably wiped out a small village of goblins with one spell. She seemed little worse for it though. Provoking the thought of what she was truly capable of when pushed. He had seen her heal, charm, and now annihilate with her abilities. "I guess this is why you're the boss." he said, taking his seat next to the fire once more. Habit caused his foot to shoot away from the fire as the coals leaped into the air. It seemed that there was tension in the group for a second time that night. He prayed it wouldn't come to blows. "No harm, no foul." Salem said, in defense. "Besides, it was technically my watch. It's my fault."

"The boss?" Willow perked an eyebrow playfully. "Working conditions must be terrible."

"Oh, there not so bad. We get health benefits." He lifted his arms bandaged arms as an example. "The hours are terrible though and we don't get dental." He chuckled at his own joke, leaning back in the grass. "Fan, you probably are the only sane one."
