Chuckling, Willow prodded the fire some more, and easiness settling back over the camp, which she was grateful for. She traced some runes in the dirt, a haiku of a cheese-loving cat. "Maybe a lawyer could help write up a better contract," she offered jokingly. "But if all goes well, this journey won't last forever."

Salem was glad for the change in atmosphere. Things had been tense since having Willow perform the ritual on him and it didn't seem to suit the group. Maybe Fanuco was right, that everyone was mad in their group. How else could they keep up this happy demur while approaching certain death? Salem didn't care if it was madness. It felt right. Something still remained unanswered though. "Willow, you asked if you could trust me." he reminded her, "Why? What's the reason for this quest?"

Willow cleared her throat, shifting uncomfortably. "Oh where to start..." she ran a hand through her hair. "The beginning, I suppose," she whispered softly with a sigh. "During my initiation, a witch hunter murdered my Coven. And a few years later I met him. A brave warrior, and charming at that. His name was Jared." she closed her eyes sadly. "Under his lies, I fell in love. We went on a quest much like this, however, it was a ploy... He..." Willow breathed out slowly, deciding it would be easier to show him. She turned from him, unfastening the back of her shirt to expose her back. It was marred with a garish scarred symbol. "He managed to kill me, but my service to my Lord was unfinished, so he granted me temporary life. Jared stole my soul for power, and if I'm unable to retrieve it within the year, I will breathe my last." Willow covered her back, turning to face her friend. She nodded, as if knowing what his question would be. "Go ahead. Ask."

Salem listened to the story intently. Her story was very different from his own, but he found that he could empathize with her. The scar that she showed him was an odd rune. The likes of which he had never seen. He leaned forward and began to touch it before drawing his hand away quickly. When she finally reached her conclusion he had a dozen different questions swimming around in his mind. He wanted to ask her all of them, but he knew that most would be answered in time. "You can trust me to do what's necessary, but will you be able to? When we come fact to face with Jared will you be able to kill him if we have to?"

Willow's eyes hardened instantly. "Some fates are worse than death, my friend." A wicked grin twisted her lips. "And he will wish I had mercy to let him die. He will pay." Again Willow shook her head, not wanting to lose herself to her emotions. "Was that all you wanted to know? Ask away if you have more questions..."

"Oz." Fanuco mumbles as he head begins to drop.

Salem nodded his head, finding he response to be more than acceptable. "That's all I needed to know. If I've learned anything the past hundred and seventy years is that if you're patient enough the answers will usually find you." he chimed, leaning forward into a more comfortable position. "So we just kill the dragon, find this Jared, take back your soul, and make sure that he finds himself in a very... uncomfortable situation." Salem sneered at his words, a glint of savagery appearing in his blood colored eyes. "Easy. Although, it looks like I owe you a back story as well now." Salem figured it must have been difficult for her to reveal her reasons for going on the quest. It seemed only fair that he share his own tragic story with her. It would have to be a story for another night, for another fire.

Willow nodded, grateful he hadn't deemed her an outcast. "And finding Jared is where my favor lies, Salem. He's in another plane of existence. You mentioned earlier that it sounded like the fun you were looking for..." she trailed off, stoking the fire. "But I would like to ask for your help in tracking him down and reclaiming my soul." she chuckled with a slight humor. "Otherwise, our friendship may very well be cut short." The wind picked up again, rustling a few strands of hair from her hood, the same worry on her face as Salem's, not wanting to be alone in eternity.

"A bit of world hopping... Can't see that getting boring any time soon." he mused, reaching out and grasping at a nearby branch. He ran one of his claw like nails down it, shearing off a small portion. He went to work, whittling away at the hunk of wood. He needed to keep his hands occupied while he thought upon Willow's revelation. His mind always seemed to work better when he was working with his hands. He figured it was due to always working the fields back home and letting his mind wander. He frowned a bit at her joke, the notion of losing her leaving a sour taste in his mouth. "You shouldn't worry too much about that, little witch." he replied, still concentrating on his work. "We'll have your soul back within the month." he bragged, trying to force some cheer into his voice.

A look of relief passed over her features and she fetched her book from her bag. "Thank you." She gave him a smile, opening her book to add to her notes. She wrote for some time before yawning. "Guess I'll let you take over officially then." Willow spread out her bedroll next to the fire. She appreciated the hammock from Gabriel, but she didn't feel like freezing during the night. She hoped he would understand. With a few adjustments, willow drifted into a light sleep.

Salem gave her a slight nod to acknowledge the official shift change. He continued cutting away at the wood with his claws, a rough shape of what it might be beginning to take form. He stopped for only a moment to glance towards her book. He wondered just what exactly she had contained within it. He knew the spell that had been applied to him had come from it, but what other wonders might it hold? He shook his curiosity away and retrained his thoughts on more pressing matters. "Sleep tight, I promise not to let the goblins bite." With that Salem settled in to finish up his watch. He figured he would just rouse whoever he felt like to take his spot since no one had volunteered to be third.

Willow rolled over in her sleep, restless dreams. She twitched so much in her sleep her leg moved into the fire, starting to burn her pants. With a hiss Willow woke up, holding her leg to her chest. "Damn it. I liked these pants..." Her leg was unharmed, but she ripped away the burnt fabric and settled back into her blanket. "Don't think I'll get some sleep." She glanced over at Gabriel. "You takin third watch?"
